University of Minnesota Women's Gymnastics Jan 25, 2014 Photos

The University of Minnesota had a home meet with Illinois last night, 1/25/14. It was a fun meet, Illinois has a great team, and it was very close, with the Gophers winning at the end, after their great floor sets. I just love the Gophers' choice of music! It is so strong and the choreography of all the women's routines is just so good. And the tumbling was great last night.

I am using an old school film camera. an old 35mm Minolta SLR with a non zoom, cheaper-end telephoto lens. I am trying to capture action shots, but it is difficult with the equipment I'm using. For sure it produces better pictures than the digital camera I was using, but I'm still not happy with how the pictures are turning out. I'm using a 400 speed film, which does produce grainy enlargements, but does stop the action better than 200 speed. Maybe I'll try an even faster speed film next time, but that will mean even more grain. Maybe I'll check into a digital SLR, but for now that's just a dream!

More Photos from Univ of MN tri-meet Women's Gymnastics 1/11/14

Here are some more photos from the meet at the Sports Pavilion at the University of Minnesota held Jan 11, 2014.  I need to work on capturing hands, feet, etc, in the frame! Also, need to eliminate any shutter shaking. Maybe need to consider using a tripod.  I was way too far away from the uneven bars to get good photos. So I made kind of an artistic shot of a change grip handstand.

Here are some photos from the University of Minnesota Women's gymnastics three team meet on Jan. 11, 2014. University of Minnesota vs. Air Force Academy and Lindenwood. I'm still editing some other ones.  I used my old school 35mm Minolta with 400 speed film, because my digital camera cannot seem to snap the shutter when I want it to...there is too much of a delay.  I'm having fun trying to capture some good pictures and it's still a learning experience.
